LUMAI

Founded by a highly skilled team, Lumai’s AI technology stems from cutting-edge optical research at Oxford University. Lumai was created with the aim of developing a scalable computing solution to meet the growing demand for AI performance while minimising energy consumption. Its innovative optical technology overcomes the scalability challenges of optical computing, pushing the limits of silicon GPUs and other photonic solutions. Thanks to its outstanding energy efficiency, Lumai significantly reduces the operational costs of AI computing.

Lumai was part of the first London cohort of Intel Ignite and won the ‘Best Overall Technology’ award at the OCP Future Technologies Symposium. Its head of research, Xianxin Guo, was recently selected for the Royal Academy of Engineering’s prestigious Shott Accelerator programme, while co-founder James Spall was named to the Photonics 100 list for 2025.
